Clarus Financial Technology chooses Belfast for Expansion

Clarus Financial Technology, a London-based Fintech company, is establishing a research and development centre in Belfast with support from Invest Northern Ireland, creating 15 new jobs.

Clarus operates in international capital markets and provides data, analytics and research services to its customers who include investment banks, hedge funds, regulators and brokers from the USA, GB and Europe.

Welcoming the company’s decision, Invest NI’s Executive Director of International Business, Bill Scott, said: “Clarus is expanding its team to meet an anticipated increase in demand for its services, and has chosen Northern Ireland as the optimum location in which to grow its business. The company operates in a niche area and its presence in Belfast will introduce new skills to Northern Ireland’s IT and Financial Services sectors.

“The 15 new jobs will pay above the Northern Ireland private sector median and offer technology and business analytics graduates the opportunity to gain excellent experience servicing top level companies.”

To support the investment, Invest NI has offered Clarus Financial Technology an employment grant of £75,000.

Dr. Gary Kennedy, an experienced quantitative analyst and co-founder of Clarus, will relocate from London and lead the Belfast office. Commenting on the investment, he said, “We have rapidly established a global brand and reputation in Swap markets and this expansion will enable us to support the needs of our growing client base.

“We looked at other locations in the USA and Republic of Ireland for this our new R&D centre but the business environment in Northern Ireland, the strength of the talent pool here, the proximity to Queen’s University and the support from Invest NI made Belfast the best option for us.”

Clarus Financial Technology, founded in 2012, is headquartered in London and has experienced business development professionals located in Chicago and Geneva. The 15 new roles to be recruited over the next three years include a Development Manager, eight Software Engineers and six Business Analysts.
