Request For Quote. A marketplace execution method whereby a participant requests prices for a particular instrument (eg OTC derivative) and this request is received and responded to by one or more participants. The CFTC requires SEF’s to generate 3 responses to an RFQ. The RFQ process is interesting for Block Trades, as explained here and here.
